As all of you know (I hope), it's political season again. California has its primary elections on June 3, and our term limits (and the fact people retire) ensure that there will be changes in the candidates offered to us. Our illustrious founder Shockwave has secured a couple of speakers for us, and, because of that, we will be returning to a place that we know can accommodate speakers for our next two meetings -- the back room at Casey's Irish Pub, at 613 South Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles. As you remember, Casey's opens at 2 PM on Saturdays, so 2 PM it will be.
Our speaker at this event will be David Kanuth, a Democrat running to replace Henry Waxman, who is retiring, in the 33rd Congressional District, which runs from Malibu in the north to the Palos Verdes Peninsula in the South, and turns inland to end at the Border between Beverly Hills and West Hollywood. His mission statement (abbreviated)?
Equal protection under the law, the right to make personal choices, and a respect for our private spheres [that's about the NSA] are integral elements of our legal tradition. I will fight each day to ensure these rights remain inalienable
That sounds like he has the potential to be as good a Democrat as Henry Waxman was. As Shockwave wrote:
Hang out and meet. We give him the floor. He speaks for 20-30 minutes and then Q&A.
We also eat and drink.
