Republicans speak often about entitlement reform and many political pundits say the well being of the country depends on entitlement reform. The word entitlement has been given new meaning by these reformers. It would appear these reformers could use some instruction about entitlements of the people.
While the relationship between you and your employer is most likely based on at will employment, you do have one safeguard. If you work a full day you are entitled to a full days pay. An employee is entitled to his/her salary and benefits, because the employee has earned the entitlement to that pay with the investment of a full days work.
The definition of the word entitled:
: to give a right to (someone)
: to furnish with proper grounds for seeking or claiming something : the condition of having a right to have, do, or get something
… I love this poll: Tea party folks in Ohio, ‘Do you think your Social Security benefits should be reduced given the record debt and deficits?’ 85 percent ‘no.’ …
Is it asking too much that we go back to using the word "entitlement" to mean something that one deserves or has earned? For example, if I put in a day's work, I am entitled to a day's pay. Or if I am ticketed for speeding, I am entitled to my day in court. Or if I pay into Social Security and Medicare for my entire working life, I am entitled to receive benefits from these programs when I retire.
“As if Congressman Runyan’s irresponsible shutdown couldn’t get worse, now he and House Republicans are demanding that we throw our seniors under the bus in exchange for reopening the government and averting a fiscal crisis,”
When did "entitlement" come to mean "giveaways and freebies for people who don't deserve them"? This isn't the first time a perfectly good English language word or term has been hijacked for political purposes.

There are 2 apparent meanings to the word entitled. The Republican meaning - "freeloader" - or the meaning I prefer, "earned".
Republicans have a way with words, for example, "enhanced intelligence techniques" instead of torture.
Americans have put in a full day and are entitled to a full days pay when they retire.
