The Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld Michigan’s ban on the use of racial preferences in university admissions, a decision that might encourage other states to adopt similar prohibitions.
I have to agree with Justice Sonia Sotomayor on this one
“Today’s decision eviscerates an important strand of our equal protection jurisprudence,” wrote Sotomayor in her 58-page dissenting opinion. “For members of historically marginalized groups, which rely on the federal courts to protect their constitutional rights, the decision can hardly bolster hope for a vision of democracy that preserves for all the right to participate meaningfully and equally in self-government.”
Like the voting rights decision
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg summarized her dissent from the bench, an unusual move and a sign of deep disagreement. She cited the words of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and said his legacy and the nation’s commitment to justice had been “disserved by today’s decision.”
There were reasons why affirmative action was put in place, and has all been to clearly seen recently they are still valid
It was put in place to protect disadvantaged groups.
Nothing has changed, America is not post racial, post misogynist, post homophobic, as has been demonstrated with every GOP victory.
