I hate using that name for it, but it is the one that attracts attention.
If you are not up to speed on the issue, Steve Green (CEO of Hobby Lobby) sponsors a group called The Green Scholars Initiative.
The Green Scholars Initiative allows the world’s leading textual scholars to research and produce scholarship around items in The Green Collection
A related effort by Green concerns developing curriculum for a course on the Bible in public schools.
Here is an earlier diary on this site by ProgLegs with basic facts and links.
I have treated the issue in my own blog here.
A substantial amount of the curriculum is finally available publicly. See below.
[I have temporarily removed the links to the Google docs of the curriculum because I do not know whether the person who posted them had permission. I will update when I know more]
Green has made repeated promises that the curriculum will not be particular to any religion or denomination nor any specific set of religious commitments.
In that light, here is a curious set of statements near the beginning:
"Above are the opening lines of the best-selling book of all time. It provides us with knowledge about the earliest events in human history. It establishes Moses' authority for the Torah, its first five sections. Fragments of its text have been found that date to 600 BC."
A number of biblical scholars I know are currently examining the material, and I will try to provide some updates as that process goes along. The early reviews have pointed out not only obvious biases and agendas, but some glaring factual inaccuracies.
