Okay, if someone says "Benghazi" and "cover-up" in the same sentence ever again I'm going to scream. Over a year-and-a-half of conspiracy theories, politicized investigations, endless congressional hearings and testimony have turned up NOTHING. And now Speaker Boehner is starting up a whole new investigation.
The reason? A newly uncovered email from deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes, dated September 14, 2012, in which he instructs Susan Rice, for when she goes on the five Sunday talk shows...
to underscore that these protests are rooted in an Internet video, and not a broader failure of policy.
The anti-American sentiment that existed at the time was over the
Innocence of Muslims video. That's one of the most basic, well-established facts about this whole thing. Pointing that out is just stating the obvious. And pointing out that the anti-American sentiment that existed at the time was not caused by foreign policy is also stating the obvious.
Also, if the administration told the ambassador to the U.N. "go out on national television and tell the whole nation and maybe even the world that our policies are not to blame for these protests", then that is the exact opposite of a cover-up. That is being as open and overt and transparent as is humanly possible.
If you think that the administration was too dismissive of its responsibility with its attitude following the attack, fine. Think that. But that does not equate to a cover-up.
Republicans are using Benghazi as a distraction from how completely screwed up they are.
