I mowed the back yard yesterday,
with an old riding mower.
I checked the oil;
my brother-in-law, Terrell,
had changed the oil recently;
it was clean and full.

Kalliope
Means "beautiful voice" from Greek καλλος (kallos) "beauty" and οψ (ops) "voice". In Greek mythology she was a goddess of epic poetry and eloquence, one of the nine Muses.

The keypad is mightier than the sword
I checked the gas tank;
it was nearly full,
but looking down in
to the dark in a lawn mower gas tank
can be very deceptive.
I grabbed a gas can,
and topped off the tank.
The low point
in mowing a lawn
is running out of gas.
This was my first time using
this particular riding lawn mower.
It's rusty and old,
and big and heavy.
I had to experiment
with the levers,
the settings:
I moved one lever to "choke,"
and started it up;
I kicked in the blade;
I lowered it down,
and mowed a little.
Too low.
Almost in the dirt.
I raised the deck,
got on again,
and started across the lawn.
First gear won't work;
in second gear,
it nearly pops a wheelie
when I let off the clutch,
then it lumbers along,
slowly around the yard.
After mowing a while,
I stopped and move things
out of the way,
and mowed some more.
It has reverse gear,
and I had to use it,
off in the corner,
the far corner of the back yard.
Done in the back;
mowed along the side.
Quit for the day,
with the sun low in the sky.
After I put the mower away,
and topped off the gas tank
again,
I got out my 16 quart stainless steel pot,
and lit a fire in the barbecue grill.
I use regular wood,
since the back yard
has big piles
of downed limbs
and trimmed back branches.
I boiled a gallon of water,
added lots of salt,
and MSG.
I cut up ten pounds of potatoes,
dropped them in,
and added a few cans of corn,
carrots,
and mixed veggies,
since I didn't have any fresh,
and I like to add a little color.
Next time,
I'll boil chicken,
and make chicken and rice.
Felt good to go inside,
eat potatoes,
and relax on the computer.
Thanks for reading.
