Did you know that there have been over 2000 nuclear blasts since the bomb was invented? Watch this video and refresh your memory. It takes a mere 4 minutes and 14 seconds to travel down nuclear blast memory lane.
Just thought we all needed a reminder. Memory is a terrible thing to waste!
It brings to mind one of my favorite quotes from Harry S. Truman:
“There is nothing new in human relations. There is just history with ignorance in between.”
From the website
US History.org:
When Harry Truman learned of the success of the Manhattan Project, he knew he was faced with a decision of unprecedented gravity. The capacity to end the war with Japan was in his hands, but it would involve unleashing the most terrible weapon ever known.
The decision to give the green light to using the atomic bomb was the most difficult decision of President Truman's entire life.
Regardless, on August 6, 1945, a plane called the ENOLA GAY dropped an atomic bomb on the city of HIROSHIMA. Instantly, 70,000 Japanese citizens were vaporized. In the months and years that followed, an additional 100,000 perished from burns and radiation sickness.
Two days later, the Soviet Union declared war on Japan. On August 9, a second atomic bomb was dropped on NAGASAKI, where 80,000 Japanese people perished.
On August 14, 1945, the Japanese surrendered.
The United States remains the only nation in the world to have used a nuclear weapon on another nation.
President Truman is my favorite president of all time. I've read a lot about him and know a lot about his life but to share that knowledge with you is not the purpose of this diary. If you are interested in Truman's history I refer you, in my opinion, to the best biography ever written on his life. It is Truman by David McCullough.
My purpose here is to share my personal history with our 33rd President of the United States.
Please continue below the fold.
I was born in Kansas City, Missouri but moved to Independence, Missouri at the age of four therefore I consider Independence my hometown. When Truman was six his family moved to Independence.
The Truman home in Independence, MO., one block from where I attended junior high school.
His home was within walking distance to where I attended kindergarten and grade school.
While attending Saint Mary's Grade School our class walked to the Truman Library where Truman gave a speech. Afterwards, we each filed by so he could shake our hands and say a few words to each of us. It was a moment I will never forget.
In grade school our class walked to the Truman library where he gave us a talk and shook each of our little hands. It was a memory cocktail I'll never forget.
Later, while attending Palmer Junior High School, which was one block away from the Truman home, I would often peer out my classroom window and witness Truman taking one of his famous walks.

During my childhood years our family would often stop by Clinton's Soda Fountain for some great ice cream. This was where Truman swept floors.
Clinton's Soda Fountain on the Independence Square is a real historic gem! Harry Truman worked his first job at Crown Drug Store in this very building.
When President Truman died in 1972 this is the funeral home where his body laid in state. It happens to be the same room where my father's viewing was held in 1963.
Former President Truman's body laid in state in the room behind the large glass. This is the same room where my father's viewing took place.
Finally, I've always thought my father and President Truman resembled each other. Do you see the resemblance?
A picture of my father.

Maybe that explains why I like to "give em hell".

Remember: "If we really want to straighten out all this crap we really need to think about shit." ( Shitbit by Poop John the First of the Church of the Holy Shitters)
Church of the Holy Shitters
A secular environmental religion, scientifically based, with a focus on the psychology of it all. Our ego is the culprit when it comes to dealing with climate change. We cannot save the planet. We can only save ourselves. Our current egotistical self-perception makes that prospect a dubious one at best. Meekness, humility and a realization that our shit does stink, guides us on our path to true sustainable living and climate equilibrium.
