My friends, the committee, came to visit tonight
They woke me in the tiny hours as they do
With their incessant chatter about this slight
I must have foolishly made or that comment I rue
A regret that hangs with me
They remind me of my faults and won’t let me be
The committee loves to visit in the deepest of the night
They hate the most restful REM sleep
I think the deep REM sleep is a challenge they love to meet
Chattering away all at the same time to wake me for their voices
That create a quiet cacophony in my head and sleep defeat.
