Now that the Republican majority has demonstrated it's resolve to move forward with their #BENGHAZI!! Select Committee, Democrats are under increasing pressure to name their own panelists.
Some have suggested boycotting the investigation, but not having members at the table who are committed to making the Democratic argument might be tactically inadvisable, and might be interpreted as sending the wrong message to the American public.
Instead of a boycott, I would suggest that Nancy Pelosi encourage the strongest possible defense to these charges by appointing the bat-shit craziest members of House to buttress the Democratic position on this bat-shit crazy process.
The options here are too numerous to count, but here are some suggestions -
Darrell Issa - The obvious choice for the leader of the Democratic delegation, he has proven time and again that Democrats have no better friend when it comes to investigating the Obama administration. Issa also seems likely to develop an outstanding working relationship with Trey Gowdy, which could prove critical to the smooth functioning of the committee process.
Michelle Bachmann - Since she is retiring this year, this might be her final opportunity to boost Democrats in an otherwise shaky mid-term election season. Keeping her off of this committee would be a tragedy for Democrats.
Steve King - There are few Republicans who speak so directly to the Democratic base, or who have the demonstrated ability to rally support for President Obama.
Louie Gohmert - True, it might be difficult for him to keep up with some of the more cerebral members on this list, but he does bring a certain attack dog spirit that could energize this group and infuse it with a passion that Democrats sometimes lack when defending themselves.
Michael Grimm - A noted former FBI agent, he will help provide the Democratic panelists with both investigative acumen, as well as in depth knowledge of adversarial legal proceedings. Plus, he can be relied upon to say (and do) some really crazy shit.
