Just wanted to peek in and say Happy Mother's Day to the moms and non-mom caregivers in this community....
...And bring you some cheer!
MomsRising.org's blog carnival by celebrity writers is up at the Huffington Post, and includes new writers I did not include on Friday, including Pulitzer Prize winning writer and filmmaker Jose Antonio Vargas and United States Representative to the United Nations Samantha Power.
Having seen Vargas's new film DOCUMENTED -- there was not a dry eye in the theater in Oakland! -- and reading his piece now haunts me. Could I do what his mother did -- send him to a country thousands of miles away at 12 and never physically see him again so that he could have the opportunities she could never afford him in their home country? I know that many mothers, especially the undocumented, make this sacrifice all the time and I shudder. I also must agree with Vargas that his mother's and many like hers is the ultimate act of love.
...Okay, this is the smile that I promised you! If you need more proof of the power of mothers, then check out this MomsRising.org Mother's Day video: Caught on Video -- Undeniable proof that moms have super powers! Watch for the cute kids, stay for the laughs, share for Mother's Day! (The baby at :32 is now contacting an agent for voice over work, LOL.)
Please note: I tried to embed this video from YouTube, but it's not working right now. Too many of us must be online as opposed to with our families. Ha!
Happy Mother's Day All!
