Dear Dailykos Family,
I hope people will consider donating a few dollars to bring a new musical to the stage (2nd attempt but perhaps I didn't post it at a very good time).
I have been around these parts for quite a while but haven't made a personal plea for support until now. If you have ever wanted to say you support the arts, now is your chance!
While this is not a political cause, I do believe that the arts and arts education play an important role in children's lives and in a civilized society. Whenever someone tells me about a child they know who is acting out or is depressed or doesn't seem to fit in - I tell them to get that child to the nearest theater. Kids learn so much being on stage or working behind the scenes bringing a theater production to the stage - not to mention the self esteem that comes from being an integral part of a team effort.
My daughter is an actress and teaching artist in Washington, DC. Currently she is playing Olive in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at Fords Theater and will be starring in Pinkalicious at Adventure Theater this summer. (If you have little girls under 8 you probably know all about Pinkalicious!)
Her latest and most ambitious project is writing, producing and directing a musical. As a young performer and musician herself, she only recently found out that many young performers in the past have died at the age of 27 before fulfilling all of their promise. It struck her deeply (since she is turning 27 this year) and she began working on a way to bring her thoughts and feelings about it to the stage in the form of a musical.
Her production has been accepted to be performed at the
Capital Fringe Festival. She is very nervous but excited to take this step into directing.
A show, even a small one, takes money to produce. Mom and Dad will be picking up the slack - but she is looking for small donations to fund the show. This is where you come in.
She is using KickStarter and hopes to raise $3,000. She has a good start - but I thought I would help out by promoting it to the Dailykos Community.
Any small amount will help! Your name will be in the program as a supporter! Thank you in advance and see you at the theater!
