A few days ago I wrote a bit about an interview I recently had. I still haven't heard back yet, even after trying to touch base Friday because that was when a decision was to be reached. As usual, I'm not optimistic because this is how it always goes. They say they'll call me back when a decision is reached, but they never do because they've already hired someone else. It wouldn't surprise me if that were the case this time either.
I guess that's just how it is these days, looking for work. I could have a thousand interviews and will never be given a fair shot because there's always 'someone better' in the eyes of the hiring manager. I can demonstrate that I have the skills to my heart's content and it won't mean a damn thing because the only thing they'll ever see is how awkward I look in a conversation. I'm sure my lack of tenure and experience in the field doesn't help matters either.
It seems like 'entry level' positions are a thing of the past these days, even though there are thousands of postings on sites like Sologig, Indeed, Employ Florida and Craigslist (All utterly useless) that all claim to be entry level while also requiring several years experience, a Bachelor's Degree and even a Driver's License before anyone will even be considered for an interview. Unfortunately since I can't afford a Bachelor's Degree and I don't have the driving ability or the patience needed to get a license, I'm basically screwed.
And once again, the topic of owning a home business using my skills has come up among relatives. Here's the thing: I don't want to own my own business. Frankly, I don't have it in me to do so. Why? Because I'd have to work a thousand times harder just to earn any money at all. Not to mention taxes and regulations and the need for health insurance that go with owning a home business. In other words, all risk, no gain. But I guess I don't have any other choice, do I?
See you around,
Homer
