A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward.

The orange pinpoints are the location of each organized group of Kossacks.
If you'd like to join a group, click on a point and a box will pop up showing contact links.
If you'd like to start a group, contact navajo for instructions.

What is your favorite Netroots Nation moment ever,
in person or as a online voyeur?

This July will mark the 9th Netroots Nation convention. We started out in 2006 with what we called it then, Yearly Kos. The kina' rundown Riveria Hotel on the Las Vegas strip was our venue as a result of a fledgling budget. Yearly Kos attracted Maureen Dowd, Ariana Huffington, Joseph Wilson, Sen. Harry Reid, Gov. Howard Dean and Sen. Barbara Boxer. The event was such a success that the convention continued on and became Netroots Nation the following year to be more inclusive. You can read more about Netroots Nation's history here.

Each year seemed to top the previous one. We're all looking forward to this year in Detroit. REGISTER HERE. This year the event I'm most looking forward to is the annual Cheers & Jeers Dinner:

We have over 75 RSVPs now and expect to reach 100. As it says above please kosmail me if you'd like to attend.

There's been lots of coverage of our many conventions over the years. Several photo diaries are produced each year. Here is the list of mine:

But back to the topic. My favorite moment ever was a surprise appearance by Al Gore at the Austin convention in 2008. What a great surprise! I documented that event in my photo diary that received 475 recommends, 616 tips, 435 comments and holds about 115 photos. What's fun from this event, aside from the photos identifying many prominent bloggers, is the comment thread. You should check it out. I did last night and it's nostalgia city. Tell me what you think of it. Good times, I say.

Al gore is here!!!!!!!!!
Nancy Pelosi introduces surprise guest Al Gore

Anyway. Back to the topic again. My favorite moment was the surprise appearance of Al Gore. But there have been many other close contenders, such as:

• Mark Warner's party at the top of the Stratosphere and his martini producing ice sculpture in 2006
• The presidential primary debate in Chicago 2007
• Shaking hands with Howard Dean in 2008 in Austin
• Meeting Meteor Blades in Pittsburg in 2009
• Spending time with exmearden in 2010
• Having a significant one-on-one chat with Van Jones in 2011
• Paula Dove Jennings's smack down of a right-wing troll during our Native American Caucus in 2012
• Our Native American Caucus speakers; Corrina Gould, Pennie Opal Plant and Michael Horse in 2013

Silicon Valley Kossacks Protest the KXL Pipeline
at President Obama's Personal Appearance in San Jose

by navajofor Silicon Valley Kossacks

Glen The Plumber alerted us about 350.org's notice that President Obama was speaking at a fundraiser in Silicon Valley on May 8th. 350.org rallied about 1500 people and the Silicon Valley Kossacks attended. Since it was so last minute only a few of us could attend but we brought our Daily Kos/Connect! Unite! Act! banner to remind President Obama that we helped elect him.

SFKossacks Roll Out the Red Carpet for
LeftOfYou and Expat Okie

by navajofor SFKossacks

On May 13th, the SFKossacks welcomed LeftOfYou and Expat Okie visiting from Chicago. They're here on a cruise up the West Coast after LeftOfYou retired last week from the US Postal system. What a pleasure to meet them and enjoy some quintessential San Francisco cuisine — Chinese deem sum.

We had a wonderful gathering and fantastic food. The bonus for Daily Kos is that LeftOfYou offered to lead a new group for St. Louis, Missouri when he moves there soon. I took him up on that. What a great day! We wished them well as they headed up the coast to Vancouver.

DKos Asheville Meet Up News

by randalltfor DKos Asheville

The Asheville Kossacks had another successful meet-up with excellent food supplied and prepared by Gordon20024. There's excellent food pr0n in the diary, btw. Steelergrrl brought tomato plants to give away. randallt handed out large Register to Vote signs along with information handouts on the new North Carolina voting law and a comprehensive guide to obtaining an ID for voting. Asheville Kossacks have been setting the example of GOTV for the rest of us. Kossack cultjake told an informative story on his new work on the precinct level of politics. randallt also made Asheville Kossack nametag lanyards for everyone. I'm impressed with all the ideas he's thought of to Connect, unite and activate his group.

?

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?
Are you sure you want to remove your recommendation? You can only recommend a diary once, so you will not be able to re-recommend it afterwards.

Choose where to republish this diary. The diary will be added to the queue for that group. Publish it from the queue to make it appear.
