The title says it all. I have a potential opportunity to go back to work for a company that I worked in in the past, with a focus on development and architecture. I have been exclusively in management and haven't written a line of production code in five years, though I have done some POC and some personal work. Obviously, I would need time to get up to speed again, but this opportunity has that built in.
So: I enjoy programming and was good at it. There are aspects of management I enjoy and I am good at it, but I enjoy programming more. I am in my early 40s, so I worry about age discrimination if I slip back into programming. Anyone have a similar experience or can offer any advice on how the development world treats middle age or higher programmers?
