Raw Story has an interesting story up right now, making the rounds on facebook. Seems like Glenn Beck and his motley crew of right wing quacks did a little segment about rape, and aired it just days after the Santa Barbara Shooting.
Of course, we can see where this is going, Glenn Beck's lackies talking about rape is bound to be bad...but this time, its worse.
from the Raw Story Article
In the video clip, Burguiere argues that a study that was recently pointed out by the White House was faulty because it was an online survey. He argued that the studied wrongly classified sexual encounters as rapes just because the women were drunk or high.
“What’s going on here is that the president is saying that these women were raped, and these women are saying they weren’t,” Burguiere insists, adding that a results of a second study could also not be trust because of “incoherent wording.”
Not only does this Glenn Beck lacky try to disprove the White House study about rape, in this
comedy segment about rape (I mean, that in and of itself sums up the depth of republican opinion about the very serious topic of sexual assaults and rapes against women), he had a man in a blonde wig and a man in a hoodie come out and do some play acting. The man in the hoodie asked the man in the blonde wig for various sexual favors, and each time the host would jump out with an arrow with the word "Rape" on it and say "THAATS RAAPE"
#####
Doesn't this just symbolize everything that is the Republican opinion about women and women's issues? I mean, certainly airing this video at all is absolutely repugnant in its own right, but airing this right after several women were killed in Santa Barbara days ago, simply because a man couldn't handle rejection and thought that he was owed sex is even worse than repugnant. Its a disgusting, vile, misogyny laced attack meant to distract from the real issue.
Isn't this just about as deep as the republican brain goes on this topic? There is only one way that women get raped, and that is the only valid way that women ever get raped. If the women gets raped outside of those circumstances it must have been the clothes she was wearing, the makeup she was wearing, she shouldn't have gotten drunk, shouldn't have been alone, and on and on and on.
These same people turn around and cry out, every time feminists and their allies point out that rape is rape no matter the circumstances, that we hate men. Its not about hatred for men. I am a man. Its about love and respect for women as people. Its about respect for victims, the 1 in 5 (perhaps even more) women who are raped or sexually assaulted in their lifetime. I know you right wing hacks are "unskewing" that poll too (ha! look at how that turned out for them in 2012, right), but those are the facts jack. 1 in 5 women. And you are mocking them. Days after a shooting motivated by hatred for women.
I say we tie this opinion to all of these right wing assholes. Every last one of them. Come out and condemn Glenn Beck and his HATRED for victims of rape and their familes, loved ones, friends and coworkers. I want every last right wing, tea party, jagoff running in 2014 on the record: DO YOU SEE RAPE LIKE GLENN BECK AND HIS CRONIES SEE RAPE?????
