This is why we can't have nice things.

It's time for another installment of As the Worm Turns in Paradise. Why? Just because my local newspaper, with a circulation of around 4000, constantly supplies me with a microcosm of the Tea Party mindset. It may just be my local rag, but it's actually true all across the land. It's what these guys truly believe and shows "the bubble" these folks live in to insulate themselves from honesty and reality.

I'm going to include three very recent letters written to the Paradise Post by a very dedicated group of folks who regularly send these letters. Then I'm going to include the truth regarding tax rates and Federal deficits...you know, the very things these folks completely lie about. OK, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they are just ignorant, refuse to engage in critical thinking and are merely parroting what they've been told by those who do purposefully lie.

The first two letters were written by an older women who writes in all the time. I believe what she thinks is quite clear as it has been for the decades I've read her letters to the Post. She wrote the first one below to Obama in response to him saying he will make an executive order directing the EPA to implement rules to have coal burning power plants lower their carbon output by 30% by 2030.

Of course John McCain and Sarah Palin (drill baby drill) had even harsher standards as part of the platform of carbon tax-and-trade they ran on in 2008. But, do these folks who write into the Paradise Post acknowledge that? No, they don't even know that (trust me).

After you held your disgusting envirowacko press conference I decided I needed to let you know how dumb your ideas are. This last year it was very cold. Changing the name from enviro-warming climate change to climate interruption is not going to do it. All the warming is caused by all the hot-air lies you radicals put out. It is God who is in charge. Thank God there is Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Tom Sullivan, FOX NEWS, Mark Levin and others to check out all your lies and tell us the truth.

You've never been in charge of anything because you've never had to do a payroll and don't know how to run anything. You and your people are not progressive, you are all regressive! You all want us to regress to the caveman era and depend on all of you. Socialism, Communism and Fascism have never worked and never will. Only freedom and free markets work, dumb, dumb. A pipe broke in our bathroom this last week. We had to call a plumber and boy, does he hate your guts. You should be in jail for all your criminal behavior including treason. STOP destroying the greatest nation God has ever given mankind.

And a letter this same women wrote regarding Cliven Bundy and the BLM.
America invented freedom, not a dictatorship as the radical left wants, because they don't like the way this wonderful country was founded. Senator Harry Reid has said the people supporting Calvin Bunding in Nevada are domestic terrorists. No, all the domestic terrorists are in Washington, D.C., working to destroy the greatest country, the greatest military, the greatest medical care and the greatest economy.
The next letter is from a 69 year old man. I know so because he's stated so in previous letters he's written.
People of America, we are living in a time when our country is being destroyed by this administration. We're over taxed, over regulated, spending is out of control, our government is not abiding by our Constitution, they do what they want, there's no accountability for anyone, we spend a lot of time and money investigating things and we can't get anywhere. Because no one is truthful about anything, we can't get anything done. They say that even with the right people in place it's going to take 10 years to get back to where we were five years ago. People if we don't change our direction we can kiss America goodbye. We need to put people in our government that will use common sense.

These are typical letters written into the Paradise Post. It's all FOX NEWS and Rush Limbaugh nonsense and has nothing to do with reality, yet it's what gets said over and over and over. I can't address the opinions expressed by these two because they are just that. I am going to respond to fiscal matters however because those aren't opinions. So let's look at the facts (warning! If you can't handle the truth, stop reading now).

The top marginal rate for federal tax today is 38.6%; 25 years ago that amount was 70%. The average federal income tax rate was 17 percent, down from 26 percent in 1992.
From Forbes Magazine:
(a) Sixty-two percent of Americans believe the deficit is getting bigger this year.

(b) Twenty-eight percent believe the deficit will remain about the same.

(c) Six percent believe the deficit will shrink.

What is the right answer?

If you guessed (c) in the belief that the deficit has shrunk this year, you are one of the six percent who got the answer correct.

According to the latest CBO report,

“Compared to the size of the economy, the deficit in 2013 is much lower than in 2009, when Obama took office. The deficit will be 5.3 percent of gross domestic product this year, nearly half the 10.1 percent of GDP in 2009.”

The improvement in the deficit as measured against GDP is the direct result of the deficit falling to $845 billion for fiscal year 2013—a $300 billion improvement over the previous year. And the positive trend is projected to continue though the next fiscal year where the the annual budgetary deficit will fall again to $430 billion.

From Politico:
The federal budget outlook will continue to improve this year, with the deficit projected to shrink to $514 billion — the lowest level since President Barack Obama took office.

Rebounding tax receipts and slower spending will help narrow the budget shortfall for the third consecutive year, the Congressional Budget Office said on Tuesday. The deficit will continue to fall next year, to $478 billion.

I like charts. Let's look at some.

Even with taking 1/2 of the Recovery Fund expense away from George W. Bush, though the cost of it actually happened on his watch, and putting it on Obama, simply because half of it was spent under Obama (kind of a sneaky thing to do if you ask me), Barack's spending still is nothing compared to Reagan and presidents since then that preceded Obama.

So, the 69 year old man is dead wrong. Tax rates have been steady and have actually declined over his lifetime. Taxes have gone down for everyone in the past 34 years, which is fully half of his lifetime. But thank God there is FOX NEWS and the clowns of hate radio that make sure to insulate my fellow Paradisians from having to deal with reality.

So if you know the deficit is and has been shrinking under Obama, congratulations, you are in THE 6% of folks that know about reality

Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with kossacks who are caring and supportive of one another. So bring your stories, jokes, photos, funny pics, music, and interesting videos, as well as links—including quotations—to diaries, news stories, and books that you think this community would appreciate. Readers may notice that most who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but newcomers should not feel excluded. We welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
