Surprised? Snake oil salesman is still selling snake oil.
Wisconsin Congresscritter and Presidential Wannabe Paul Ryan tried to sell the "Medicare will be broke by 2026" lie at a RW friendly Wispolitics.com event yesterday. I'm sure he got nods of approval and maybe some applause. Like Fox News viewers, these folks believe anything a prominent RW Republican says even if they should know better.
Today, PolitFact labeled it "Mostly False".
Ryan’s point, made at a WisPolitics.com event on May 5, 2014, is that Medicare must be reformed because it is "going broke. The trust fund goes bankrupt in 2026."
When Republicans say "reform" all I even hear is the cringe worthy sound of nails on a chalkboard.
They don't mean to "reform" or "fix" it. The hidden translation is usually "destroy" or "privatize" so their donors can rake in big bucks. With Medicare and Social Security destroyed, Big Insurance and Wall Street Thieves can swoop in for a big bonanza. The rest of the Big Money Donors will cash in with subsidies and tax breaks as more federal money becomes available to them.
It's the Circle of (political) Life. Donations made are paid back by privatization, tax cuts or subsidies which leads to more donations. Rinse and repeat. Sweet deal for them and the shaft for everyone else.
Paul Ryan (R-I'llWashCleanDishesAtAFeedingProgramForAPhotoOp) has been working hard to declare Social Security and Medicare to be "broke" and in need of his immediate help. His "help", of course, is a privatization scheme where you're on your own, baby. It's the Big Lie and he'll keep telling it because he believes that people will eventually believe it.
The big lie needs to be smacked down and ridiculed each and every time it's told. If it isn't, it will continue to be told. The liars need to exposed as liars and clods every time they spew it. They need to look at foolish and become the subject of jokes.
The real fact that Ryan and his cronies are trying to ignore is that Obama Care has extended the life of Medicare by holding down health care costs. It could do more if Republican Governors cared more about their citizens than they care about politics and expanded Medicaid. However, for Republicans, politics and ideology always win.
PolitiFact, which I've banged around every time they ignore actual facts, got this right.
