The five quisling New York State Senators of the so-called "Independent Democratic Caucus", who betrayed the Democratic Party and the voters by aligning themselves with the Republicans in the State Senate to give the GOP a majority (and deny the majority that the voters of NY had given to the Democrats) are feeling the heat.
According to the New York Daily News, one of the Five, David Carlucci from Rockland County, claims to be calling for his four colleagues to re-join the Democratic caucus and turn the majority to the Democrats. This follows the refusal on Thursday of the Rockland Democratic Party to endorse Carlucci for re-election, and their determination to seek a primary challenger.
Initially, Carlucci said that "he withdrew his name from consideration because party leaders wanted him to back Democrats retaking control of the Senate." Now, it appears, he is changing his tune.
All of this comes on the heels of the New York Working Families Party somewhat reluctantly deciding to give their line for Governor to Andrew Cuomo in exchange for what seemed to many to be a handful of beans. Cuomo promised to support a raise in the NYS Minimum Wage and a state DREAM Act, and, most relevant to this story, pledged $10 million to a fund to re-take the State Senate, including making promises to "try" and get the recalcitrant quislings to rejoin the Democrats.
As the Daily News story another of the IDC 5, Diane Savino of Staten Island claims that Carlucci has not contacted her, saying "If he's urging anybody, it ain't me."
And, the News story states, with respect to the fact that petitioning to get on the primary ballot for state and local races is ongoing now until early July,
"The IDC is trying to run out the clock on the petitioning period with this end-of-session garbage. The coalition is not gonna sit around and wait for them -- we will start petitioning immediately on behalf of challengers to IDC candidates if they don't come back to the Democratic fold now."
We need to keep up the pressure. And, IMHO, not give in to these DINOs. Primary them ALL, I say.
