I discovered murphthesurf3 was here at Daily Kos when I went to Help! to find out how to start a group – he’d been there before me, asking the same question. I tracked him down, hit the ♥follow button and fired off a message. It was the beginning of a conversation that’s still ongoing and the genesis of a new group at Daily Kos for refugees who’d left Huff Post for good.

See Huffington Post for the 1% to catch up on what happened at HuffPost and why thousands of us left in a Huff!

The leap from a shared idea to commitment happened early and quickly; the momentum going from first gear to warp speed in less than a week. During that time, the who-knows-what-I-don’t-know in me flung out questions in all directions, especially to groups Welcome New Users and New Diarists plus constant references to Help and FAQs. I owe undying gratitude particularly to JaxDem, my mentor at New Diarists, Angie in WA State and Glen the Plumber who pointed me in the right direction and answered my burgeoning questions.

Then came the glorious day of the birth of our group – June 7, 2014! The following morning, group founder murphthesurf3 published our first diary: The Day the Posting Died (at Huffington Post) and a Group Response at Daily Kos. The response was astounding – I pulled an all-nighter sending out invitations and welcoming new members!

One inquirer asked if we had room for one more – we have room for all who are interested and we are reaching out to ex-HuffPosters who landed on other sites as well as those here at Daily Kos. What we’re aiming to achieve is a reunion of the community from HuffPost and to encourage their community spirit to flourish right here at Daily Kos.

We envision PostHuffPost: Connection-Conversation-Community as a neighborhood in the wider community of Daily Kos, a place to reconnect with old friends and to connect with new ones. We’re here to offer help to those new to Daily Kos and to point them in the right direction for whatever they want to do. We know that Welcome New Users and New Diarists are great starting points with fantastic resources and wonderful people.

We want our members to get to know the wider community too – to see and participate in the extraordinary efforts of groups like Connect! Unite! Act! Team, the pleasures of Community Spotlight and the fun of Kitchen Table Kibitzing. We welcome all, whether you want to post diaries frequently or just post a comment occasionally.

Our mantra is Connection Conversation Community – we can promise you those. Follow us by clicking on the orange ♥follow next to our group name at the top of this diary and our diaries will show up in your stream (I promise some true-blue and very topical Aussie humor in my next diary). Join us by clicking on PostHuffPost: Connection-Conversation-Community and sending us a message or just let us know in the comments below.

To those who have already joined: welcome to the neighborhood!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
