Ok, the guy is off his rockers, however, when a couple crazies walked onto his ranch, he had the sense to tell them to go away. Now I know a bit about crazy, not just that my dad ran the correctional institute for the mentally ill, and I've studied the topic for over 20 years, I've been there. As a survivor of sexual assault, I've heard the voices. When I was there, the last time, I called my twin brother, he'd seen it a time or two, he said this is crazy, that's when I found my way back.
Not long ago, there was a guy at work, he was talking about guns, it wasn't just that, it was the mafia, and guns. Well, I know people in the mafia, its not about guns, its porn. This guy was playing games with me, trying to get under my skin. I talked to management. I told them, I know the difference between crazy talk, and stupid. I felt bad, however I wasn't going to take the chance. I told them, this is real. We got rid of him. Six months later, there was a shooting at one of my corporate branches. As much as I hated it, I think I made the right call.
The point is, we have guns, we live in a gun culture, that's not going to change. The real problem with gun violence is mental illness. Bundy had a lot of people at his ranch, he got rid of the crazies. As crazy as the guy is, he is far more rational than the pundits and the politicians.
Well, its another day, another shooting. I understand the sensitivity of personal rights. I don't want a police state. We have to as individuals start confronting mental illness though. Its tough, just cause someone is talking crazy, that doesn't mean they are, and I don't know how to walk that line, ok I do, maybe that's the answer, I know the issues. So maybe instead of talking political points, we need to start talking about what is over the line, what is dangerous to us as individuals and society. When does rhetoric become a concern. How do we know when someone is talking smack, as to when they are listening to the voices.
