All you have to do is turn on the news to be greeted with another grizzly shooting. There are 86 gun deaths in America every single day, including 32 murders. There is an unholy alliance between gun manufacturers and the NRA that plays to the six percent of American households that own more than one gun. The results are as predictable as they are tragic. In the most recent Nevada shooters’ motives, we see the rhetoric of the Far Right taken to its twisted conclusion. Obviously right wing politicians did not wish the deaths of two police officers and a civilian, yet what happened in Las Vegas proves that it is hard to get a genie back in a bottle.
We have a moral obligation to do something. Yet, we will be unable to do anything until there is the political will. And that resolve will only come from the fear of defeat by those who are strong supporters of the NRA agenda. They need to be as afraid of us as they are of the NRA.
That’s one of the reasons I’m running for the state legislature in Connecticut. My opponent in a primary is an incumbent Democrat, Representative Linda Orange, who backs the NRA and is backed by the NRA.
My opponent and I disagree on many issues and we will continue to make the case on all of them. Yet now is the moment, with just 61 days before the primary, to send a resounding message on guns. This campaign in Connecticut’s 48th district is the very best chance anywhere in the country to see the NRA agenda defeated. It is one of the few campaigns to make NRA support the centerpiece of our effort. That is why Democracy for America endorsed this campaign.
And here’s the best news: we can win. But to do so we are going to need your help. We are trying to gain Moveon.org support, while highlighting Rep. Orange’s support for the NRA. So please sign this petition.
