Candidate Bill de Blasio promised that if elected he would guarantee a "swift settlement" with the five men who were wrongly, shamefully convicted of raping and assaulting the Central Park Jogger.
Today he delivered.
The five men wrongfully convicted of sexually assaulting a female jogger in Central Park more than 25 years ago have reportedly agreed to a settlement of close to $40 million.
The New York Times reports the agreement will provide the five exonerated plaintiffs, all black and Latino, approximately $1 million for each year they were behind bars.

Kevin Richardson, Kharey Wise, Raymond Santana, Yusef Salaam, and Antron McCray will each be awarded $1 million for each year they were behind bars, and for the pain and suffering that was inflicted upon them by a racist, intolerant, and lazy city. They deserve more.
No word yet of the apology from Donald Trump, the city's newspapers, or its police department.
Rev Al Sharpton, who has worked diligently on behalf of justice for the five, had this to say:
“We took a lot of abuse. The toll on these men and their supporters was terrible. I want to know we have things in place so that this doesn't happen again,” he said.
