The Backyard Science group regularly publishes The Daily Bucket, which features observations of the world around us. Insects, weather, meteorites, climate, birds, flowers and anything natural or unusual are among the worthy topics.
Please let us know what is going on around you in a comment. Include, as close as is comfortable for you, where you are located. Each note is a record that we can refer to as we try to understand the patterns that are unwinding around us.
Hi brothers and sisters. I often judge my day by how many water liles are blooming in my backyard pond. Today is a 10-lily day. The record is 11. The picture above has a bonus Rush plant and two of the lilies.
Despite the cool and wet spring and summer, the blueberries are ripening nicely, faster than the robins can eat them.
I'm not getting as many grape bunches as the first year, but more than last year. Will I get to eat any ripened grapes this year? Only if I outsmart the squirrels.
Here are the "headwaters" of a stream I am constructing in my sideyard. Water will eventually will cascade down a waterfall, between those boards, and into that duckweed-choked small pond. I'm taking out that fence, and digging more creekbed, so the water will flow into and out of the duckweed pond, into more creek, that will flow into a 4 x 8 pond, that is currently in too ugly a state to even picture.
