With sectarian violence mounting in Iraq the neoconservatives are calling for intervention; because as we all know the mere presence of American troops will cause flowers to drop from the sky and everyone will live in peace and harmony for as long as they are present.
Oh wait...
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has warned that sectarian reprisals "can only intensify the cycle of violence", threatening to push Iraq back towards the vicious civil war that left tens of thousands dead at its peak in 2006 and 2007.
Then, dozens of bodies were found each day on Iraq's streets as Shia death squads exacted revenge for horrific bombings that largely targeted their community.
The Shias initially appeared to heed calls not to seek revenge for the killings of soldiers and government workers when Isis launched its offensive earlier this month.
But reports have since begun to emerge of brutal sectarian and retaliatory attacks, the most prominent of which are described below:
2006 and 2007, wait, that cannot be right Obama wasn't President, how can he be blamed? We had over 150,000 troops in Iraq at that time, so that cannot be right. President Bush ordered a surge in 2008 to tackle this violence so the troops now numbered over 180,000. It is not as if we didn't have troops in Iraq before the 2006/2007 civil war when we decided Iraq should have democracy. Oh and by the way Nouri al-Maliki was elected in 2006, also the murderous rampage by Blackwater thugs and our failure to bring them to justice had nothing to do with Iraqis wanting the US out for good. Not to mention the white washing of torture and the crime of preemptive war.
You obviously see that to conform to the neoconservative world view we have to forget everything that has gone before, we must forget:
How the Middle East was arbitrarily carved up after the fall of the Ottoman Empire by the Imperial powers.
How Saddam Hussein actually maintained power.
The lessons we learnt about sectarian violence during our occupation.
That we created a sectarian government in Iraq.
That the Iraqis agreed/wanted for us to stay.
We must create a clean slate and believe if we occupied forever that nothing bad would happen.
Why the hell is our media even giving the time of day to those that got us into this bloody quagmire in the first place is quite frankly shocking.
Cuz we are the good guys with really big guns.
We bring democracy with extreme prejudice.
We will be greeted as liberators and showered with flowers.
The only thing that the drivel spouted by the necons has given the world is more blood.
Dear necons whose side do we take? Or do we just fight all sides?
May they choke on their drooling blood-lust, for once in the middle of the carnage they create I wish they would put their hands up and admit [like the rest of us] that they haven't got a clue .
