Harvey "The Snake" Mandel, noted guitarist with Canned Heat and on many groundbreaking solo albums has survived a long running battle with cancer of his face. His biopsies came back clean on June 13th, and today he is having the first of at least 6 surgeries to rebuild his nose and face, this one at least 8 hours in duration, followed by weeks of painful recovery. Here is the story from his face book page...

Please note there is a link in the article to donate to Harvey's medical fund. He has been a professional musician all his life, and has not been made rich by it, and he has huge medical bills already, with 6 more specialized surgeries to come...PLEASE donate if you can - even $5 would be gratefully accepted.
I have never met Harvey Mandel, but I know his work for over 4 years and have seen him on stage with Canned Heat in 1970, and I am also a former musician, and also not rich, who has gone through bankruptcy for medical bills.

Thank you.
ADDED- One more from The Heat...from their LP Future Blues, the cut is So Sad (The World's In A Tangle) an environmental boogie from 1970. The second -fuzz toned - guitar solos are Harvey Mandel...(The clean, chimey sounds are the late Alan Wilson)

Thanks again...I donated early today, and I posted this on another site. I HOPE he is doing well and will recover full use of his facial muscles.
