I first became interested in Heather Mizeur when I was looking for an alternative to Brown and Gansler. As I read more about her, I found out that not only is she not Brown and not Gansler but that she is someone that I actually liked, a real progressive in the race. Among her positions are:
* Providing paid family and medical leave;
* Bringing back the millionaires tax;
* Expanding universal background checks to all guns;
* Legalizing, regulating, and taxing marijuana (to pay for universal pre-K education)
* Increasing child care subsidies
Heather Mizeur's website has very detailed information about these and her other positions. You can read them at
http://www.heathermizeur.com.
The mainstream media has been portraying this race as a contest between Brown and Gansler but I have personally talked to a lot of people who are voting for Heather Mizeur. I think that they are underestimating her support.
But if she is even going to have a shot, it is important that people actually vote . So if you live in Maryland, please go to the polls today (if you have not already early voted) and vote for Mizeur. And then make sure that your friends who like Mizeur actually vote also.
If Brat can defeat Eric Cantor, it might be possible for Mizeur to actually defeat Lt. Governor Anthony Brown (that is if people actually turn out to vote).
6:24 AM PT: Please keep in mind that difficult and unlikely are not the same thing as impossible. If we want to elect true progressives rather than the establishment types, we need to try. We can't just throw our hands up in the air and say that it doesn't look like we will win so we shouldn't even bother to make the effort.
So if you support Mizeur, please make sure you vote today. And make sure your friends who like her also vote.
