For election nerds this evening primaries should be a lot of fun. I direct your attention to the early voting results in the great state of Mississippi and the race for the United States Senate seat.

A local newspaper has run the available numbers and estimated a slight advantage for Senator Thad Cochran.  For some reason the secretary of state's office can't break out the number of people that voted early in the Democratic party primary, so that probably increases the error factor but the result leaves some hope for Cochran.

I am conflicted regarding this race. I wish that I had faith that the general population of Mississippi would reject Mcdonald and vote for a Democrat in November but that doesn't seem likely.

The analysis can be found here:

On a lighter note popcorn sales should increase while we all wait to see if Tancredo and his crazy supporters can win the Republican primary. This is the McCaskill plan of picking your crazy opponent and sit back and watch him set the tone for the party nationally.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

1 - Thad Cochran wins another term. He votes NO on everything. No change.

2 - McDaniel wins and wins in the final. They can't vote NO any harder than they already do, so there is no real change in the Senate, but one more lunatic gets exposed. No immediate change, but possible improvement down the road.

3 - McDaniel wins and loses the final. Yay!

So it really can't be bad for us.

McDaniel wins the Republican primary and continues to make crazy statements and becomes the face of the Republican Senate candidates. We get to ask all the other candidates do agree with fill in the blank crazy thought and he delivers the Senate to the Democrats.

He could be really useful in the LA race due to his sexist comments.

Your right, I am no longer conflicted. Hell, Cochran might even decide if he wins that he is going to screw his opponents like a tethered goat (snark reference to Cochran's speech regarding inappropriate contact with animals) .
