The Republicans’ overriding methodology in the implementation of Obama obstructionism calls for slamming the legislative door in the President’s face then accuse him of refusing to compromise and work with them.
Since I have never had the desire to listen to Conservative media personality Laura Ingraham’s radio broadcasts, I have failed to catch her political bullying on behalf of the Republican Party.
Following the recent defeat of Republican congressman and former House Majority Leader Eric Canter, many Conservatives appeared blissful that Canter’s loss was due to his possible resolve to working with the President on immigration reform.
On an episode of The Last Word on MSNBC, it was reported that Ingraham decided to use her radio broadcast to intimidate and bully Idaho Republican Congressman Raul Labrador, over his possible willingness to working with the President on some form of immigration reform.
Labrador had been seeking the endorsement of members of the Republican conference in his desire to replace Canter as the new House Majority Leader. He foolishly thought his appearance on Ingraham’s radio show would win him supporters in his sought after promotion. He could not have been more mistaken.
INGRAHAM: We have this FAIR pledge out there. I know you know what it is.
But will you today say you will not engage in any of this push for foreign
or guest workers or an immigration reform pathway while Barack Obama is
president, will you agree to those principles?
Emphasis diarist....
It should be reiterated that her primary objection was directed at the specter of anyone working with President Obama. Yes, this was actually written in a pledge: "Do not do anything until Obama leaves office."
At least on this singular matter of immigration reform, Labrador appeared to lack Ingraham’s forceful anti-Obama fervor.
LABRADOR: No, I will not, Laura. I think we need to take care of --
INGRAHAM: So you`re where Cantor is, he won`t either.
LABRADOR: No, no, I`m very different than Eric Cantor. I would have been
talking about -- I`ve made it clear for the last year that we shouldn`t
have a bill for immigration reform in the House of Representatives.
Ingraham tried again to force Labrador to pledge that he would not work on an immigration package as long as the President was in office.
INGRAHAM: So you won`t sign the FAIR pledge, even though you say you
don`t want to work on immigration reform as long as Obama is in office. So
you won`t sign the fair pledge which says no more guest workers, no more
illegal immigration, no more immigration reform. You won`t sign that.
LABRADOR: No. I believe in legal immigration, Laura. I`m not against legal immigration.
Labrador lost his bid to replace Eric Canter.
This past Monday, the President announced that due to the Republicans' refusal to work on immigration reform, he would proceed to crafting some measure of relief to our broken immigrational system through executive action.
“While I will continue to push House Republicans to drop the excuses and act and I hope their constituents will too, America cannot wait forever for them to act,” Obama said from the Rose Garden. “That’s why today I’m beginning a new effort to fix as much of our immigration system as I can on my own without Congress.”
As was reported today on the
Ed Show on MSNBC, this announcement allowed Ingraham, who appeared on Fox News, to blatantly offer the final deceitful linchpin to her and fellow Republicans’ Obama obstruction construction. She started off by making the obligatory allusion to the “imperial presidency.”
INGRAHAM: I’m gonna be the supreme leader here. I’m going to enact my own rubric of immigration procedures and amnesties and I’ll throw in a little enforcement for window dressing.
Keep in mind they forbade their own side from working with this man. But then here comes the final despicable act, the obscene coup de grâce in their effort to promote the myth that the President is seeking to undermine Congress through his uncompromising devotion to creating laws on important policies on his own.
INGRAHAM: If the President of the United States can do this on an issue as important as immigration law, what else can he do it on?
Yes, this is Ingraham, who bandied about a pledge, which insisted that no Republican worked with the President, bullied people not to work with the President, and now she is lying that the President wanted to go it alone. What can any fair-minded individual say about people like this? Obama obstructionism…conceived, plotted, and executed….
These people are beyond disgraceful….
