I am working at the church this week, building sets for Vacation Bible School.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
OK, we do have a diary schedule. But, when you are ready to write that diary, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMOM a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FloridaSNMOM is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.
Monday: BadKitties
Tuesday: ejoanna
Wednesday: Caedy
Thursday: art ah zen
Friday: FloridaSNMOM

I will also have a speaking part this year while I help the kids make a piece of sand jewelry. That's next week. Come below for more blabbing.
Every year, the church I attend has a Vacation Bible School. I grew up Catholic, we never did stuff like this that I remember. But this is a Reformed Christian church. I sometimes ask the Pastor what they reformed from doing but he assures me that is not the correct reading of the word. I have the same problems with The Word, but that is another story.
Each year, the Wonderful Mother/Crafter leads anyone who will volunteer in building sets for the story that will be told that year. We built Jerusalem, where Jesus was a boy, the Hanging Gardens of Nebuchadnezzar where Daniel got into trouble, and this year, The Desert! We are with Moses, in the desert for 40 years. Our desert has 5 palm trees in an oasis. The construction of the palm trees is quite ingenious. They are made out of long heavy cardboard tubes, cut into lengths and then put back together slightly angled. Out of the top are PVC pipes, heat bent to be branches with heavy cardboard palm fronds attached. The trunks of the trees are wrapped in butcher paper, all scrunched down to be wrinkly. I tell you, these are so cool! We cut the fronds, painted them, scored and shaped them and they will go on the branches. We haven't gotten there yet but the trees and the branches are all put together so tonight, FRONDS!
I have made sheep out of thick styrofoam, tents out of big colorful shawls, hanging gardens out of crepe paper and until now, the sheep were my faves. They were almost like the counting sheep in the Serta commercials but their ears and tails were nailed on with long nails because they would melt if you used hot glue. I love those sheep! I advocate for getting them out of storage every year and use them. But the palm trees are very cool too. I think I will make a couple for my garden for a party this summer. Maybe I can borrow these when we get out of the desert. I think I'll get the sheep too.
Have a wonderful day!
