The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee is a proud sponsor of Netroots Nation for the 8th straight year.  But this year, we're stepping things up.

Just a couple weeks from now, the DLCC is teaming up with the Michigan Senate Democrats to host NN14's "Welcome to Detroit" Kick Off Party:

Meet Sen. Gretchen Whitmer in Detroit!
After you've RSVP'd on Facebook, make sure to also register here so you can receive a complimentary beverage ticket for the event.

More details below the fold:

WHAT:  Netroots Nation "Welcome to Detroit" Kick Off Party
WHO:  Michigan Senate Democratic Leader Gretchen Whitmer
WHERE:  Detroit Beer Companny, 1529 Broadway
WHEN:  Wednesday, July 16th, 7:00PM - 10:00PM
SPONSORED BY:  Michigan Senate Democrats and the DLCC
ADMISSION:  Free with Netroots Nation conference credential

We're pleased to announce that Michigan Senate Democratic Leader Gretchen Whitmer will be joining us, as well as other special guests.  Leader Whitmer (@gretchenwhitmer | has courageously led Senate Democrats as they've fought to stop the Tea Party agenda in one of the most extreme right-wing legislatures in the country.  If you're unfamiliar with some of Leader Whitmer's best-known moments, just know that she's kind of a rock star:

This year's Netroots Nation Kick Off party is especially important because the entire Michigan state Senate is elected every four years.  That means this fall is Michigan voters' first opportunity since 2010 to hold the GOP-led Senate accountable for policies like Right to Work, the Rape Insurance law, and Governor Snyder's massive corporate tax breaks paid for by a tax on seniors' pensions.

We have a chance to kick some of those Tea Partiers to the curb this fall, so please RSVP for the party and sign up for your free drink.  And if you can't make it to Netroots this year (or even if you can), please chip in to support Michigan Senate Democrats and the DLCC.

The Koch Brothers will hate you for it.

See you in Detroit!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
