My daughter had the complex barbecue yesterday, with assistance from several of her local friends and an equal number of neighbors. The amount of food exceeded even what gets provided when I throw a party.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
We have split up the publishing duties, but we welcome everyone in IAN to do daily diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
If you would like to fill in, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMom a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FSNMom is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.
If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.
I finally got my computer to cooperate enough to let me get this in - though I think it's actually the modem box, or whatever it's called these days.
I got a little fan this weekend that works via a USB port, so the temperature in the corner where my desk is should be ameliorated in future. I do think, though, that I will have to get the box replaced.
My boss is on vacation next week, and I am the week following. I think this is the fourth or fifth year that we have done this sort of thing. I will not be available for Sunday the 20th, and I'm not sure I'll have time to get something done before then. Could somebody check and fill in for me if I haven't got something scheduled by the 18th?
Much of the food provided for my daughter's 4th of July party involved chicken - there were also hamburgers and hot dogs. The kabobs were delicious. And there was also fried chicken, of which I am immensely fond.
My buddy downbuilding actually came - he doesn't usually attend parties that he doesn't throw himself, but he's been off work lately. He must really be bored. He has a nephew who owns a brewery in Bend, and he brought a 6-pack of one of his nephew's beers. Pretty good stuff, actually. And it was nice to be able to sit and talk for once - he usually works night shift these days, and we haven't seen much of each other for months.
I'm one of the people who answered this week's quiz at work (on our intranet home page) which was asking about how people liked fireworks, that I would like to leave the country. No, I am not fond of fireworks.
My daughter has decided to take the same week I have off. She plans to spend time with her kids - and maybe get in a week's worth of swimming lessons for the granddaughter. She viewed the idea of taking off the day she has to get me to the airport at 4 AM with considerable enthusiasm, and then found out that nobody she works with had asked for any time off that particular week and has put in for the whole week.
I have an audio version of The Green Mill Murder (Phryne Fisher #5), and I have been listening to it. I do like the Phryne Fisher books. The narrator differentiates voices nicely, but she doesn't do a very good Georgia accent, and one of the members of the jazz band is from Georgia.
