I am taking a leap, here, to include my sister diarists in this preface: Most women can, and do, react to negative statements with civility, in spite of our "emotions".
Okay...
...I am sincerely sorry for using the term "refugees" and for not researching the "ins-and-outs" of our immigration legislation, prior to writing OUR LADY OF LIBERTY HOLDS A WELCOMING TORCH, NOT A STOP SIGN, STUPID! July 5, 2014.
To anyone that has read it, I was NOT advocating automatic asylum for those children. Only that they be granted the right to be represented through the "due process". without having to endure the vitriol some citizens of Murietta, California spewed at them, while blocking their buses' entry to that facility.
As I now know, "refugee" is the term used for persons, OUTSIDE OF A COUNTRY, who apply for assylum through the U.N. Another fact I found, in Wikipedia, is that the United States could be..."in breach of the U.N. Convention...' if they refuse to admit those children that have been "...warranted international protection..." by the U.N.
As to the legislation kerfuffle, I was told that I was in error for referring to an immigration "law". What I have found, are articles about the "policy" of immigration. (Still gathering info, on that.) What confuses me, though, is that we are talking about trying to get an "Immigration Reform Bill" through Congress...How can you "reform" something, if it does not exist, in the first place? Are we reforming a "Bill" or something else?
May I take a few moments, to let you know a little about myself?
I am a High School Grad, with a Diploma. I worked as a stylist, and subsequently owned a salon, for a bit over fifteen years. I was an EMT for four years, and a Paramedic, for another four years. I worked my way up, to manager, in a well-known oil companys' convenience store chain, until I retired.
Now, I proudly help my husband around a small farm, as he carries out his life-long dream of being a Hay Farmer! It was his encouragement, to get my scribbles into print, that led me to DKos. In spite of the fact that my cat misses her hidey-hole, atop that heap of paper, I have found DKos to be a comfortable space.
Be assured, that I will be doing extensive, preparatory research, if i find myself in these circumstances, again.
I thank you for your patience!
