A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward.

Good morning Kogs and Kossacks in Dailykosland!
Merry Monday and welcome to the working week.
Are you boycotting anyone?
Some folks are talking about a boycott of Hobby Lobby in light of last week's SCt ruling. The Hobby Lobby case has also spurred discussion of other boycott targets—companies like Eden Foods who are also considering stopping contraception coverage for their employees.
It makes me think how many boycotts I've been involved in already.
I was introduced to the concept as a small child when my family was part of the grape boycott. That was a real sacrifice for me because I LOVED grapes. I don't remember how it was explained to me, but I learned to live without them.
In the 90s I was part of the Snapple boycott against Limbaugh, which hurt because I was drinking a lot of Snapple peach ice tea at the time.
And although I really wanted one, I did not buy a Bose sound system because they were one of his big advertisers.
Of course, that was back when he HAD advertisers.
I haven't paid to watch any Woody Allen movies since he married Soon-Yi.
I've been boycotting Walmart for more than a decade.
I've also been observing Buy Nothing Day for the same length of time—I do not shop on the day after Thanksgiving.
I've got a boycott list of various celebrities just for being obnoxious Republicons: Bruce Willis, Ah-nnuld, Joan Rivers, Dennis Miller and Mel Gibson to name a few, although I am told I should take Kevin Costner off that list because he became a Democrat before W was elected.
I loved Orson Scott Card's work for decades before I learned the extent of his bigotry, but I felt compelled to join the Ender's Game boycott even though I had been waiting for that movie for almost 40 years and had hoped to go multiple times during the opening weekend. I did see it for free on TV a few weeks ago. I was even more glad I hadn't crossed the boycott line to see it in a theatre, because the movie was god-awful terrible. Nothing at all as I had been imagining it all these years.
I have a list of Koch Industries products and have been pretty consistent about avoiding their stuff although I accidentally bought Brawny paper towels a few weeks ago. Sorry! I downloaded the Buycott app in the hope of making more conscious purchases.
Sometimes when I am trying to decide between equivalent products, I choose to buy the one that is manufactured in a blue state, or one that is closest to going blue.
This has been a conundrum when it comes to choosing between Pepsi and Coke. Which state is closer to going blue, Texas or Georgia?
I've broken my red state/blue state rule a few times, though, with respect to small businesses and individuals.
Sometimes I just get a hunch that someone in Utah or Oklahoma is going to be OK (no pun intended).
Are you boycotting any companies or products? Do you avoid buying things from red states? Do you have authors or actors of musicians whose work you do not support because of their political views or other character indictments? Do you think boycotts work or are they just a way to make ourselves feel like we are taking action when it really makes very little difference?
Are you boycotting anyone?

by John Crapper ♥ for Seattle and Puget Sound Kossacks
Organizer John Crapper completed another meet-up, from his agenda:
Next, I updated the group on our efforts to identify campaigns we would like to assist in the upcoming elections. There are three that have been under active discussion but nothing has been firmly decided. We all agreed it was important to pick races that would help Washington Democrats regain control of the Senate.
Next, I asked for ideas, suggestions and assistance identifying future guest speakers. In connection with that I urged all to invite their friends to become Kossacks and join us to enhance our clout.
Longtime Kossack
LarisaW, President of
Progressive Radio Northwest (PRNW), was in attendance. She is leading an effort to bring back progressive radio to the NW.

by Avilyn ♥ for New Jersey Kossacks
The New Jersey Kossacks held their inaugural meet-up on June 14, 2014. Thanks so much to Avilyn for taking up the reins and leading this important group. She noticed in all of the Christy diaries that many New Jersey folk came out of lurking or signed up to comment. She was motivated by this to start this group. I'm glad because there's a lot of work to do in New Jersey. I also noticed in her start-up diaries that many people couldn't attend this event but wanted to be invited to the next event. She had 18 Kossacks sign up with her first announcement of the new group. This is excellent and I'm sure there are more New Jersey Kossacks out there.
Here's the group photo:
L-R: Christin, Mr. Christin, belinda ridgewood, zitherhamster
Please visit Avilyn's diary for many MORE photos plus food pr0n! Enjoy! You can still REC it. You can join New Jersey Kossacks by sending a Kosmail to Avilyn.
Event Organizers! Please contact wink from Netrootsradio.com by KosMail to schedule airtime with them to live broadcast your Event. Wink & Justice will then promote it on The After Show radio program!
