Hillary Clinton has consistently led in 2016 general election polls, and has absolutely dominated Democratic primary polling with 40-50 point leads over her opponents. But are Democrats really loyal to her?
I think we are all quite tired of the Clinton vs Warren or "Is Clinton liberal enough?" discussions, and I assure you I am not about to delve into either of those.
I'm asking this question because we know from people like Todd Akin, and very likely Ted Cruz in 2016, that Republicans are VERY stubborn and will vote for their ideological preference even if the candidate is unelectable in the general. I have reason to believe that Democrats place emphasis on electability above all else.
We all know Clinton is leading in polls. We know Republicans are deathly afraid of her. We know she would probably win if the election was held today. But will she actually make it through the primary? She's leading today by huge double-digit margins, before any serious declarations of primary opponents. If a year from now polling shows that another Democrat (It doesn't matter who) would perform equal to her in a general election, how many of her supporters would jump ship? I haven't seen much to indicate that she has many loyal supporters, or that Democrats genuinely believe she would be the best person to represent the Party at a national level. The only thing I have consistently seen is that people think she can win.
You could say I am a Hillary supporter right now (I would vote for her in the general election), but at the same time I am certain I would abandon ship at the first sign of another Democrat being able to lead us to victory in 2016.
