Today is Bastille Day -- the day which commemorates the event that started the French Revolution.
Last night John Oliver had a wonderful rant on the growing inequality in the US. Here is a brief article in the Huffington Post.
(I'm clearly one of those who is not poor because I actually paid my HBO fee to watch him.)
If you go to the link, you will find a link to a clip of the rant.. Here is description of what he said:
In his 14-minute-long diatribe against income inequality, Oliver explains why the staggering wealth gap proves America is definitely not a nation of haves and soon-to-haves. The "Last Week Tonight" host also exposes the Estate Tax, a.k.a. "The Death Tax," as a political rallying point that could be causing Americans to act against their own best interests.
After the fold, the song we need to learn
Because of that rant and to remember today, here is a song of the French Revolution sung by Pilaf.
I can't find a translation of the version Piaf is singing, Here is the chorus:
Ah! ça ira, ça ira, ça ira
Ah! It'll be fine, It'll be fine, It'll be fine
les aristocrates à la lanterne!
aristocrats to the lamp-post
Ah! ça ira, ça ira, ça ira
Ah! It'll be fine, It'll be fine, It'll be fine
les aristocrates on les pendra! the aristocrats, we'll hang them!
Another song of the French Revolution.
Let's always remember the sans-culottes and drink to them!
