Good day and welcome to DKos Asheville. This is the weekly DKos Asheville open thread where we get together every weekend to share with everyone what we're all up to in Western North Carolina and beyond. We hope this group serves to invigorate us locally and regionally here on Daily Kos, building on the sense of community that's grown through our online engagement. DKos Asheville can give us all a better sense of connection, a better understanding of who we stand with, work with, and share with. We hope, through this community, that we can leverage our orange passion for progressive politics to help elect more and better Democrats.
Asheville and all of Western North Carolina are wonderful places to visit. We have a powerful progressive presence, both cultural and political, and for the most part everyone is really nice. And the views are breath taking. If you've never been here, we promise you'll love it.
This week's edition offers us a chance to explore the possibility of turning August 4th, Moral Monday Asheville into a DKos Asheville meet up. Please join the discussion below.
David's excellent diary from Wednesday is here and Lamont Cranston's fine piece from Friday is here. Both of these diaries and discussion look at the upcoming Mountain Moral Monday event in Asheville on August 4th.
We would like to use this opportunity create a mini DKos Asheville community meet up on that day and Wednesday's diary by David generated a lot of discussion. Please use this diary to move this discussion along. I am crazy busy these days and have been unable to join much of the conversation but yes, I think it a wonderful opportunity to get us back together.
There have been suggestions that we meet for food before the event and a couple of ideas were floated including the location of our snowy winter meet up near the interstate and locations downtown near the event. Maybe we should also consider meeting up after the event instead. Just a thought, though I know that might be problematic for folks traveling from afar.
I will let navajo know what we decide and she can add us to the "Connect" blog.
I will also look into a DKos banner we could hold up at the event.
I am open to any ideas to make this meet up successful. I'll be working all day but will try to check in from time to time on my iPhone. Have a great day. I look forward to seeing everyone in Asheville on August 4th!
By the way, my availability to pull off a larger meet up is looking like late September/early October.
