...when I first heard about the FAA ban of US-flagged airlines flying into Ben Gurion International Airport, I couldn't help but think that it would only be a matter of time before somebody somewhere would make the claim that this ban was an effort by the Obama Administration to 'punish' Israel for it's Gaza invasion. Thanks to this era's McCarthy doppelgänger Ted Cruz, I didn't have long to wait....
...Senator Cruz, the One True Gift to Crazy People Everywhere, has come out with the bold accusation that the FAA ban is nothing more than muscle being applied by the White House against Israel. He announces with tremendous flourish that he will block ALL State Dept. nominations until his questions are answered. The particular fly in this ointment is that he hasn't actually asked any questions but instead has made accusations. That this is simply a purely political game is a given even in the best of all possible worlds and Cruz's own spokesperson, if she to be correctly understood, makes that perfectly clear:
Catherine Frazier, a spokeswoman for Cruz, said the Obama administration's foreign policy was itself "ridiculous and offensive."
That doesn't suggest a predilection for a statesmanlike interest in finding any sort of real truth, so it appears that the peculiar rules of the US Senate will - in the absence of Democratic leadership taking action on
the 'hold' rule - result in We the People being subjected to another chapter in the ongoing effort to make every aspect of federal governance as dysfunctional as possible...
