I just saw Lucy, the science fiction action film starring Morgan Freeman and Scarlett Johansson. The studio blurb says:
From La Femme Nikita and The Professional to The Fifth Element, writer/director Luc Besson has created some of the toughest, most memorable female action heroes in cinematic history. Now, Besson directs Scarlett Johansson in Lucy, an action-thriller that tracks a woman accidentally caught in a dark deal who turns the tables on her captors and transforms into a merciless warrior evolved beyond human logic.
The basic 'trick' of the film is Lucy "ingests" a drug that causes her to use more and more of her brain, and the more she uses the more "powers" she gets. Now, these powers include the ability to beat the Johansson out of the bad guys, freeze time, and see what's going on inside people's bodies and minds.
But what is more relevant to our quest to elect more and better Democrats is that as she uses more of her brain, she becomes - not really more compassionate - but more aware of us all being one. What she says in the movie does not exactly echo "It takes a village" or "One voice can change a room..." but she gets close.
So for a conservative Ayn Randists - she is the ultimate enemy. A "superwoman" whose essence is not individualism, but collectivism/universalism --- I really don't know the name for it.
And what will really cause the tea-party folks to HATE this film is the hero is not only a woman, but a party-going woman who is smarter than any of the guys, and her "accomplice" is an older black guy (who sometimes plays POTUS in movies) and her other "accomplish" is French. As a matter of fact, the only white guys in the movie are (te-party folks, close your eyes) scientists.
