Mayday PAC's mission is to fight the power of big corporate and special interests buying politicians by backing candidates who have a commitment to campaign finance reform. The PAC wants to show that citizen funding can make a difference and will choose five Democratic House and Senate races for nominees that support reform and back them with citizen-funded dollars. Here's where you come in: Fill out a short form nominating WA-08 and tell them why Jason is the good guy who deserves backing. Anyone can nominate Jason, not just residents of the district.

The incumbent Dave Reichert is closing in on a $1 million in funding, and as expected, most of his money is from GOP PACs and large corporations, including VA Republican Rep. Eric Cantor’s PAC, Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Boeing. Jason does support reform and believes that dysfunction in government is caused by the money-backed influence of corporations and the top few wealthiest individuals. He's a progressive on all the issues and Reichert votes Tea Party. There couldn't be a race that fits more with the Mayday PAC mission. Jason is running a strong, hard campaign even though he has been outraised over 7 to 1. Backing by this PAC would make a HUGE difference to his campaign.

In addition to supporting Jason by nominating him to Mayday PAC, please join me and donate to his campaign. Now is the time to make an impact with contributions. The primary is Tuesday and then 3 months to the general election. Reichert just voted to sue the President before he went home on vacation. He enables the Tea Party. My budget to donate is usually $3 to $5, but just like our votes, all of our dollars together are mighty! Donate and join with me to turn WA-08 BLUE!

I was just getting ready to take a break before I posted and saw this: GOPer Rep King: If Obama Moves Alone On Immigration, Then Impeachment Could Be On The Table. POTUS is sued because of overreach, then the GOP can't pass a bill to handle the border crisis, POTUS says money has to be switched now, it's running out. Boehner tells the President to do it himself and now King says Pres Obama would be impeached for taking action.

We have got to vote the GOP out!

Find out how to nominate Jason Ritchie for the win below the fold.

Use this easy form, Suggest a Candidate, and let them know why Jason should be selected. I've summarized some information below.

They want the candidate to have a path to victory:

1) This district is ready to turn blue, but it will take effort to change the momentum of a 5-term incumbent. WA-08 is R+1, won by President Obama in 2008 and 2012. Last October during the GOP shutdown a PPP poll showed the incumbent GOPer Dave Reichert with underwater approvals of 32-47.

2) Jason and the Ritchie team are running a smart, strong campaign. He takes a progressive stance and is making his voice heard: He writes for Huffington Post politics, had an impressive reddit Q&A session and speaks to residents at meet and greets almost every Saturday.

3) Jason has picked up endorsements from unions and almost all of the Democratic organizations, politicians and Democratic supporting organizations in Washington.

4) Grassroots meets technology: He has an enthusiastic, energetic team working with him to GOTV on phone banks and door-to-door contact. The Ritchie team is highlighted in an AdAge article about training in the latest data and technology platforms the Democratic party organization says will be key to 2014 midterm success.

Mayday PAC wants a candidate that believes in campaign finance reform and will work for it. Jason is our man. He says:

The Truth about Politics

....The result of these decisions [SCOTU] is that money has become the criteria for who makes it as an elected official. Politicians are rewarded not for their ability to govern, but their ability to fundraise. Instead of listening to the people, they pander to multinational corporations. This creates an environment where policy is not shaped by the needs of the people, but by the corporations who fund our representatives.

My own Congressman, Representative Dave Reichert, has received over $457,000 this cycle alone from PACSs such as Comcast, AT&T and others. No wonder he ignores the voices and the interests of the people in my home district-he has big business to back him up. No wonder he hasn't passed a single bill during his time in Congress -- he's been too busy fundraising.....

....I want my sons to grow up in a country where elections are decided based on issues, not checkbooks. I want them to see a Congress that responds to the concerns of their constituents, not some unnamed corporations. This is why I'm running for Congress, to make sure that my district is represented by someone who cares about the actual people living there, not the corporations. I am committed to serious campaign finance reform -- we must return Congress to its roots, "We the People".

Jason is a supporter of the Fair Elections Now Act and Government by the People Act. More information about Government by the People here.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  This district is rated as "SOLID REPUBLICAN" (3+ / 0-)

Every two years someone comes out as says Reichert is vulnerable and every two years he still wins.  Last time, in a State that President Obama won handily, Reichert was re-elected 60/40.  Don't see why anyone should expect those numbers to improve.

I have no problem throwing Jason volunteer support but I think dollars that could go to a more competitive race are bing wasted here.

I don't mind donating to some districts or states that are clearly in need of some money, but I don't see anything improving in this district till Reichert retires.

might add our dollars to our volunteer support.

Rather than fund a Republican lite, the opportunity to aid a candidate who is on our side is enticing. Some of those "more competitive" races as tighter because there is less contrast between the candidates.

I agree with the diarist, we should be eager to invest in a nominee who is with us on the issues, rather than one as beholden to corporate masters as his or her GOP counterpart.

If your strategy depends on having fewer people show up to vote, that is not a sign of strength. That is a sign of weakness. President Obama

    •  Totally Different (5+ / 0-)

2012 was a totally different year - Democrat Karen Porterfield ran almost no campaign and did barely any voter contact.

I've been working with the Ritchie Campaign - they're doing extensive GOTV efforts and they're the reason their CD's turnout is running ahead of the rest of the state (17.1% going into the weekend) despite a shoestring budget.  If we have the resources in this district to back up the effort being put out, this can be extremely competitive.

Its only an R+1 district, Porterfield's loss was a huge outlier.

        •  This district is my district. Please help us get (0+ / 0-)

rid of Dave! We have had him for too long and it is time to change! I have voted and I am trying to get others to help us turn blue!
This year is different, every year is different! There are some real differences this year and I have hope that enough people are finally tired of the Republicans, I am hopeful that there is a real difference in the blue team vs red team this year!
Just because it has been red for years doesn't mean that can't change but we need help and dollars to donuts Jason is much better than Dave. This is a large district and covers many miles, some are more red that others and the lines were redrawn recently so WE HAVE A CHANCE!!!!
But we cannot do this ALONE!!!
Help out if you think you can but please don't rain on our parade of change!
          Peace and Blessings!

It's too bad you feel  so discouraged.  The skinny black man was told he didn't have a chance either and look how that went. There are many stories of underdogs that win.

If you don't try you certainly can't win.

I'm on social security and $5 is a lot to me, but I'm glad to give it.  Very glad to work for his campaign.

It costs you NOTHING to submit the form to Mayday PAC. It costs nothing to vote. It costs nothing to encourage others to vote.

Spreading discouragement could be very costly, it could cost votes.

While I don't know much about Richie, I completely support your urging of Mayday PAC to endorse progressive Dems. But I must point out one mis-statement in your diary:

The PAC wants to show that citizen funding can make a difference and will choose five Democratic House and Senate races for nominees that support reform
Not so. One of Mayday's first two endorsements is NH-Sen right-wing extremist Republican Jim Rubens. Obviously pleased with the air-cover that Mayday support suddenly provides him, Rubens won't say whether or not he thinks DREAMers should be rounded up and deported (which is pretty much an answer to that question). The rest of his record and platform are equally appalling, with the single exception that he has long paid lip-service at least to campaign finance reform.

One of Mayday's first two endorsements was a completely bone-headed mistake and an embarrassment to its progressive supporters. Supporting Mayday's goal (getting big dark money out of politics) as we do, but fiercely opposing one of its first two endorsements, we're crusading to push Mayday PAC to stop endorsing right-wing extremists.
