This one is going to leave a mark. Back in 2010, Republican Scott Walker made one huge
campaign promise: He would "get government out of the way of employers who will then help Wisconsin create 250,000 jobs by 2015." As Democratic challenger Mary Burke's new ad demonstrates, he doubled down on that promise, and said he wanted to be held to it. And now Burke is doing just that:
Narrator: "He made a pledge."
Walker: "250,000 new jobs by the end of our first term in office."
Narrator: "And he asked us to hold him to it."
TV interviewer: "Is this a campaign promise? Something you want to be held to?"
Walker: "Absolutely"
Narrator: "Today Wisconsin is dead last in Midwest job growth, tenth out of ten."
Reporter: "Wisconsin lags behind most of the country when it comes to job growth."
Narrator: "And those 250,000 jobs? Not even close. Broken promises. Dead last in jobs. Scott Walker is not working for you."
Three and a half years later, Walker
hasn't even reached the half-way point in creating those jobs. And Walker is never going to meet his goal.
So the total, according to our monthly calculation, is 100,313, or about 40 percent of the total Walker promised. That leaves 149,687 jobs to go before his term ends.
In order for Walker, who is up for re-election in November, to reach his goal, the state would have to add a total of 24,947 in each remaining month of the year. That's nearly what the state added in each year in the past three years.
I don't think he's going to make it.
Help Wisconsin. Help oust Scott Walker. Please give $3 to Mary Burke's campaign.
