Hello and Merry Meet one and all. I have just recently joined the kos katalogue, and I hope I am doing this right. I am new to selling my chainmail, so if I goof, please let me know….
I have always wanted to create beautiful things. I worked as a carpenter for many years, but that was more grunt work than fine wood working…I cannot draw worth a lick. So, when a couple of years ago I found chainmail (or chainmaille) I totally fell in love with it. I am still learning and probably always will be.
I am now widowed and retired and have a lot of time to fill up. I live in Hamilton, Ontario with my 8 year-old-cat Harli, so working on jewelry is a great way to keep busy during the winter. I chain and watch TV/movies and just let the snow blow! We had a pretty long and hard winter this past year, and now I find myself with a stock of jewelry with no place for it to go. I want to make more, but until I start clearing out the stock, I cannot afford to. I am out of rings right now, and will be ordering more fairly soon…hopefully by the first of September.
Right now I work only in aluminum. For one thing it is inexpensive both for me to work with and for potential owners. It is lightweight but depending upon the size of the rings and the weave, can appear quite substantial. I am thinking of moving on to copper the next time I order rings. There are a lot of people who like copper for the healing properties it carries. I just want to make sure that nothing I make turns someone’s arm green!
I have LOTS of ideas! I have plans for boot chains and rosaries (both Catholic and Pagan). I make a pretty neat choker that is designed for men, and I make tiny little bracelets for little girls. I am even looking at some Steam Punk. I made a watch chain for my doctor who is into SP.
Here are a few examples of my work. All of these are one-ofs right now… but can always be recreated.
