Democratic gubernatorial challenger Paul Davis surged to a 10-point lead over Republican incumbent Sam Brownback in a new poll out Tuesday morning.
The Rasmussen survey of 750 likely voters found Davis with 51 percent of the vote to 41 percent for Brownback.
Five percent of voters were undecided and 3 percent preferred another candidate. The poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percent.
While the poll showed the House minority leader to be generally viewed more positively than Brownback, the Democrat clearly still has work to do.
What is really happening in Kansas is that effective use of on the ground information strategies and strong leg work in the outer districts has been key in building a broad based coalition against Brownback.
While the common thought is that a rising tide lifts all boats, the reality is that small market races are making significant headway in doing damage to Brownback's re-election bid.
Effective work on the ground in Kansas House races is forcing Brownback to address multiple issues in multiple markets, a difficult and confounding task for a Governor in a state with such a diverse geographic landscape as Kansas.
As these local races and state wide races look to make an impact in the Koch filled Kansas government, Republicans have to be wondering: how did it start to look so bleak, so bad, so early?
They only have themselves to blame...
