This morning, Salon posted this link to a livestream KARG radio video of the police assault on peaceful protesters last night in Ferguson. (Yes, radio--because TV reporters had been forced to move out of the area.) The protesters are doing nothing more than standing in the street with their hands in the air. A line of police vehicles slowly advances on them, then opened fire with rubber bullets and tear gas. Then they fired into the neighborhood. It is shocking. This video leaves no doubt that this was unprovoked police violence.

A few summers ago, we visited South Africa. So many people we met told of how inspired they were in their struggle by the US civil rights movement. At the Apartheid Museum, I was struck by the similarity between the videos of the violence of police against protesters there and TV reports of civil rights protests I saw on TV as a teenager. And now, this.
