A protester throws back a smoke bomb while clashing with police in Ferguson, Missouri August 13, 2014. Police in Ferguson fired several rounds of tear gas to disperse protesters late on Wednesday, on the fourth night of demonstrations over the fatal shooting last weekend of an unarmed black teenager Michael Brown, 18, by a police officer on Saturday after what police said was a struggle with a gun in a police car. A witness in the case told local media that Brown had raised his arms to police to show that he was unarmed before being killed. Picture taken August 13, 2014. REUTERS/Mario Anzuoni

Conservatives love to scream about "tyranny" and "jack-booted thugs" and whatnot. But if last night taught us anything, it's that they really don't mean that. The IRS scrutinizing politicized Tea Party groups before approving their non-profit applications? Why, that's the Death of Freedom. Protesters getting their Constitutional First Amendment rights violated in plain sight by actual real-world jack-booted thugs?

Well, as all hell broke loose last night, there were crickets:

Of the hundreds of RW folks we follow, @toddstarnes is literally the only one tweeting about #Ferguson tonight - all others have been silent
@RightWingWatch
Now, a whole morning later ... well, it's a combination of crickets and rank dismissiveness.

You have outright racism:

Steve King attacks Black Caucus response to #Ferugson, says rioters of same "continental origin" http://t.co/...
@RightWingWatch
You have stupidity:
MSNBC resident blowhard Joe Scarborough just couldn't resist bloviating about the arrests of Washington Post's Wesley Lowery and the Huffington Post's Ryan Reilly. Scarborough's idiot opinion? They must have gotten arrested because they just "want to get on TV."
You have efforts to deflect from the real story, like the Breitbart headline "Media Outraged After Ferguson Police Detain Journalists," as if that's what this shit is really about.

So it's clear–here we have a real world example of people's freedoms being overtly violated by the government, and they can't be bothered to get worked up about it. Proof, as if we needed more of it, that for conservatives, it's all about Black Guy Obama Derangement Syndrome, and not about any real concerns about tyranny.

Update:

BREAKING. Statement by President Obama from Martha's Vineyard around 12:15 PM Eastern.
@CharlieKayeCBS
NOW conservatives will get outraged.

Update II: On cue:

JUST IN: Obama to throw gasoline on the fire in #Ferguson at 12:15. He'll do this from his 1% enclave at Martha's Vineyard.
@NolteNC
Poor Nolte, he had been working so hard to cool things down!

Update III: Brooklynbadboy in the comments:

They arent running to defend freedom like Cliven.

I wonder why???

If only there was an answer to that very vexing question!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
