Dear friends,
We all know that this country’s politics are in the grip of big-money corporate donors seeking the continued dominance of the 1% over the 99%. Happily, we have seen cracks in the two-party façade recently.
...
As such, we are donating $50 to the campaign of Eugene Puryear for At-large Council in Washington, D.C., another open socialist, running as a member of the D.C. Statehood Green Party, with a long history of advocating on behalf of the exploited and excluded.
As a D.C. Statehood Green Party member, he is amplifying the battle cries in the “Fight for 15”, taking on price-gouging utilities, fighting for those victimized by mass incarceration and urging an end to the failed war on drugs.
We saw what a major impact our progressive victories in Seattle, Richmond and Jackson had. Imagine the political earthquake that could be opened up if the people of D.C. brought an open socialist promoting a viable progressive vision for the nation’s capital to their local legislature!
Please join us in donating $50 to Eugene’s campaign today! Together, we can push back the 1% elites and push forward the empowerment of the 99%!
Please note that our affiliations are listed for identification purposes only, and do not necessarily reflect an organizational endorsement. We include these to demonstrate the depth and breadth of Eugene’s support across party affiliations and fronts of struggle.

Dear friends,
We all know that this country’s politics are in the grip of big-money corporate donors seeking the continued dominance of the 1% over the 99%. Happily, we have seen cracks in the two-party façade recently.
In Seattle, open socialist Kshama Sawant was elected at the head of a true mass movement in favor of a $15/hr minimum wage. We have seen the effect this has had around the country in the struggle first begun by low-wage workers and continued on the Seattle City Council as it expands to San Francisco, Chicago and beyond.
We have also seen how Richmond, CA, Green Party Mayor Gayle McLaughlin — working with progressives of all political affiliations through the Richmond Progressive Alliance — has helped that city to experience a remarkable transformation. They have garnered national attention as a city brave enough to take bold and innovative approaches to chronic problems. They have lowered homicide rates by 66 percent, forced Chevron Corporation to pay a $114 million tax settlement, increased the quality of life for residents and increased access to city services for the poor. And they are fighting the predatory banks by utilizing eminent domain principles to stop foreclosures to keep people in their homes!
And long-time people’s lawyer and social change revolutionary Chokwe Lumumba was elected mayor of Jackson, MS. Consider that for a moment — a self-described revolutionary Black person was elected mayor of the former cultural and spiritual heart of white supremacy.
There is a tremendous amount of anger at the rule of the corporate elites and tremendous desire for change. That much is clear. In this context, local campaigns are not just local, but opportunities to shine light on the deep reservoir of support that exists for serious, fighting progressive challenges to the 1% and their status quo. They serve to amplify the issues we fight for in the streets and expose those who constantly preach “moderation.”
To paraphrase William Lloyd Garrison, “Tell a person whose house is on fire to sound a ‘moderate’ alarm.”
