On Monday a 9 year old girl shot and killed a man with an UZI in what is being described as a horrible ACCIDENT! This was not an accident. This was an act of moral and criminal STUPIDITY.
Now, like you, I look around for who to blame and I come up with the same answer as you... It's the NRA, it's the Republican Party. But no, It is more specific than that. One man is responsible for what happened, one man has blood on his hands for this incident, ONE man is responsible and he is my Congressman, he is responsible.
Rep. Bill Huizenga, congressman from the 2nd district of Michigan is responsible and I will tell you why. I like to call Mr. Huizenga an anonymous congressman. Like so many Republicans nobody knows who he is, nobody knows what he stands for, he doesn't do anything. He doesn't pass legislation to make the world a better place. He doesn't have any causes, no accomplishments no burning desire for public policy.
He is a congressman because he won a primary in a district that is drawn for a Republican. He keeps his seat because he votes 100% Republican party line and he will remain in office for as long as he does not piss off the whacko right and get primaried.
Any person who believes that the 2nd amendment gives any person the right to own any gun, any amount of ammo, any capacity clip and any number of weapons he or she desires is an ASS to quote Dickens.
A 9 year old girl cannot drive a car because she lacks the intellectual and emotional maturity to safely traverse the public roadways. A 9 year old girl cannot consume alcohol at a public establishment because she lacks the intellectual and emotional maturity to ... A 9 year old girl cannot go to the bathroom at school without the permission of her teacher because she lacks the intellectual and emotional maturity to safely...
With all these and many other restrictions we put on children in this society because they lack the intellectual and emotional maturity to safely... Yet, it is okay to allow a 9 year old girl to play with a sophisticated machine of war, a machine capable of inflicting a massive number of casualties to anyone within 100 yards in a matter of seconds by a 9 year old girl who lacks the intellectual and emotional maturity to safely go to the bathroom by herself!
Because of a perverted interpretation of the second amendment some of our brother and sister citizens believe that even children should be allowed to play with guns.
So then you ask me why I say that Rep. Huizenga is the one man responsible for this tragedy and I say it is because of his anonymity and his lack of a desire to pass legislation to help, he votes 100% the Republican party line, which means that special interests, like the Radical NRA have his vote locked in.
When I hear that we should boycott the oil companies for the horrible environmental record, I roll my eyes because it's impossible. So we don't boycott all the oil companies, just one BP or Shell or Exxon, much more practical but also impossible, but if we boycott just one station we could run that station out of business. Problem is of course the guy who owns the station is not Exxon, so we just ran one businessman out of business and Exxon keeps going.
What I suggest here is that if we stop trying for a minute to fight the NRA or the Republican party en masse and focus all of our resources on just one person, one Republican in a safe seat, bring overwhelming political pressure against one legislator and remove him from office. Then maybe the rest of them will take notice that next time it may be them.
I volunteer my congressman from Holland, Michigan to be that first test case. Bring millions of dollars and thousands of GOTV professionals to this small district in West Michigan and deliver a knockout punch to these anonymous Republicans who have no moral authority or right to the office they hold.
