piebob: |
hey puccinigirl kickass job on the email! so many people seem shocked we're supporting republicans |
rojisan_roaming: |
that's unreasonable |
piebob: |
but yeah, a lot of the emails are like "don't do this, you'll spoil congress" as though it weren't already a complete goatrodeo |
rojisan_roaming: |
silly people. the republicans don't need mayday money. they have demographics on their side |
puccinigirl: |
The truth is, a lot of people like the idea of a bipartisan campaign but, the moment we actually support a Republican, some freak out. "Don't use my money to support that Right Wing Nut Job". I hate to break it to them but, to a liberal, most Republican candidates are RWNJ's |
piebob: |
puccinigirl: i sent an email asking about how to respond to the more pointed questions about our candidates saying they don't take PAC money and then looking at their FEC records |
puccinigirl: |
pie, that's great. Let me know what the response is. I definitely don't feel qualified to explain the decision making process. |
puccinigirl: |
A supporter reached out and suggested that we go on the Daily Show. I explained that we tried to get them to promote us but they weren't interested…. |
piebob: |
is the stream of emails still fairly low? it seems low. |
puccinigirl: |
I know. And (knock on wood) the flow of DocDawg inspired emails has stopped. |
piebob: |
i'm good at apologizing for stuff we have no control over. i'm less good at explaining things like the issues with Gallego |
puccinigirl: |
Email has continued to be slow. I only have one left to answer - mainly because she asked a lot of questions about NH primary voting and I'll need to do a little research :)
Oh, and [J.L.] wrote to ask about the 5 mill we haven't reported yet. She wishes you the best. I assume you know her?
I didn't want to tell her we didn't have it all yet so I politely put her off for a few days. Let me know if you've been given any direction about that line of questioning. If not, I may ask about it on Monday.
|
pie | home: |
yah, so far, no info on that. we need to bring it up on monday, yeah
lee asked about it this week as well
and crickets
|
puccinigirl: |
I don't need an answer, I just need approval on the spin And no, I haven't thought of the spin yet. I guess I have my weekend cut out for me. |
AaronLifshin: |
guys, for the 5 million dollar question: "we will announce the matching donors as soon as we are ready" or "as soon as possible" |
pie | home: |
AaronLifshin: that is...disappointing. people want to know what is taking so long
it makes people think that it wasn't a guaranteed thing as implied beforehand
|
AaronLifshin: |
it was never implied that it was guaranteed
there is just no good way to say: "people have not given us $5 Million yet"
the safe line is the line I have given you
they can try to get people to give them $5 Million, and then they will have a better idea of what takes so long
:P :P
|
pie | home: |
well, the implication was that Lessig had already lined up the matching funds
that it was based on him raising the $5M from everyone else |
puccinigirl: |
I hope it's not the entire 5 mill we're missing but just one or two hold outs. Maybe they'll come through. :(
So, I'll use that line but I don't expect her to drop it. I noticed that [DocDawg] reported the truth about it the other day. It made me wonder if this [J.L.] was gathering info for him but it's probably just a coincidence. |
AaronLifshin: |
what did [DocDawg] write? |
puccinigirl: |
I wonder if [DocDawg] found out through his emails w/ Larry or if a donor tipped him off
just a sec....I'll copy the exact words for you |
puccinigirl: |
In the halcyon days of its youth (July), Mayday's founder and chairman, Lawrence Lessig, let it be known that between online grassroots donations and matching funds from its megadonors Mayday would be a $12 million force in the 2014 cycle. But subsequent reality has proven less kind: as previously reported, matching donors having been dragging their feet honoring their pledges, online donations have slowed dramatically
I copied so you wouldn't have to read the whole annoying thing But here's the link
[DocDawg] may have just figured it out on his own by looking at the filings.
|
AaronLifshin: |
I believe we are waiting for 1 payment from one of the matching donors from last round still |
pie | home: |
it's really helpful to know that we're only waiting on one person, and that somehow the whole $5M didn't fall through--although i wonder if the other matches are contingent on the whole $5M being matched
not having ANY visibility into why it was taking so long and what the status was really made it hard to respond to folks
not that i would tell them this info, just that i myelf was also wondering, and so i was sort of disinclined to try to spin it in case it all came down like a house of cards |
rojisan_roaming: |
this is why it's so important to have a bucket of shiny objects to toss around the room
small stinks about facebook or logins or disclosure inconsistencies or donor promises could multiply quickly |
pie | home: |
most of them are people missing the point about voting for Rubens
"omg i cannot support this guy"
yeah, i'd say many of us find this distasteful
we're not suggesting you vote for him because of his other policies, we're holding our noses because he supports campaign finance reform, and we need his voice in office to get to work on that
sigh, some of these folks seem barely coherent |
puccinigirl: |
so far, I've only seen one email, complaining about Stark 360. Although, [DocDawg] wrote another diary about it so I'm sure more will come. |
