Have you donated once, to some Democratic candidate or group? You’re on the national email list.
Donated more than once? The email goes up exponentially, 20 or so since daybreak just for the DCC, for example. Gaah.
I’d like your advice and feedback on this question: what national Democratic or other groups, if any, should we support for the specific goals of a) GOTV, and b) fighting back against vote suppression?
Voting booth is open, below the Orange Margin of Error.
So far, I’ve been targeting donations to specific individual Democratic candidates who meet my criteria. Ideally, they have a progressive track record at national, state, or local level. I’m also supporting some who are not ideal but would be a major improvement over a troglodyte incumbent. Next, I want them to have a solid ground game: registering new voters, and GOTV. Even if they don’t win, they are laying foundations for 2016 and beyond.
I’ve been reluctant to donate to DSCC, DCCC, DGA, and other national groups because I can support individual candidates directly. The work I’d like to support nationally is twofold.
1. First, get out the vote. I want more registered voters, and I want more registered voters to turn out and vote. Who’s doing this effectively? What evidence supports their claims to effectiveness? (Final word on effectiveness, of course, will not come until November.)
2. The harder we work to register voters and get them to the polls, the more tricks the Republicans are pulling out to suppress votes. Who is fighting back most effectively against vote suppression? (Evidence-based recommendations appreciated!)
Poll is open below; no voter ID required!
And further comments on effective groups are invited – I would love to see broad discussion. (Note: volunteering is critical, too; I do a little of that, but my time is limited, between work and care of frail elderly parent.)
