Heads up, Oregonians:
After its plans for a location in Tualatin were nixed, fast food giant Chick-fil-A is now seeking to open its first Oregon restaurant in Hillsboro, according to city planning records.
A document showing land-use applications filed with the city gives a Tanasbourne address for the potential Chick-fil-A – 2865 N.W. Town Center Dr., just southeast of U.S. 26's interchange with Northwest 185th Avenue.
For those who don't know, Hillsboro is the heart of the Silicon Forest, and the local population is primarily a mixture of high tech employees and their families, Latin American immigrants and their families, and the older farming community. The specific location is right off the much-traveled main highway that connects Portland and Hillsboro, and on to the Oregon coast. A fast-food restaurant with a drive-thru window undoubtedly would be successful there. Unless there is a conscious effort to prevent it.
Chick-fil-A was the subject of controversy and nationwide protests in 2012 after it was reported that the company and its affiliates donated millions of dollars to political organizations opposing gay marriage. Cathy's son Dan, the company's CEO, also made comments opposing same-sex marriage.
Chick-fil-A has a
rich history of
ugly bigotry that should be a prime consideration as the planning department decides whether or not to approve the application. Public opinion should have in influence.
