As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, earthquakes, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, earthquakes etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
Ok, we do have a diary schedule. But, when you are ready to write that diary, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMOM a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FloridaSNMOM is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.

....It's Pouring.
The old man is snoring.
He bumped his head on the back of the bed,
and won't get up in the morning!
The other morning I woke to rain pounding down and that silly jingle got stuck in my head. I mean really stuck; wouldn't go away even after I hummed the Hallelujah Chorus. When I was a child, my Mother would sing the jingle when there was a heavy rain, never just for a sprinkle. It is a fond memory. My Mother had a very warm, very rich and beautiful contralto. I sound like a stray cat caught out in the rain.
Here I was with that silly thing stuck in my head. What to do? Obviously - make a big project out of it! Find out where the song originated, old how old it is, what it means. Then write it down because saturation will make it go away. And I am a little obsessive.
There are many different versions, different attributions, and different meanings.
English Nursery Rhymes
It's raining, it's pouring
The old man is snoring
He went to bed and he bumped his head
And couldn't get up in the morning
Rhymes.org just says it probably originated in the UK and was sung by children who couldn't go out to play. Odd imaginations those children had.
Poetry Foundation
It’s raining, it’s pouring,
The old man’s snoring.
He got into bed
And bumped his head
And couldn’t get up in the morning.
The Poetry Foundation attributes it to Mother Goose, a reference to no one really knowing from where it came. Apparently just a silly rhyme about weather and growing old.
Answers.com
'It's raining, it's pouring
The old man is snoring
He went to bed and he bumped his head
And couldn't get up in the morning'
Answer.com says the rhyme originated in Ireland during Cromwell's reign (1649-1660). It is supposedly a reference to the rainy Irish climate and a wish for Cromwell to die in his bed.
Then we have Wikipedia, which wants to blow away all the myths.
WIKI
It's raining; it's pouring.
The old man is snoring.
He went to bed and bumped his head,
And he wouldn't get up in the morning.
The song is not found before the mid-twentieth century in the USA. It was noted in 1939 in New York by Charles Ives (1874–1954) and copyrighted in 1944 by Freda Selicoff.
So much for Mother Goose and Oliver Cromwell!
BTW, IT'S STILL STUCK IN MY HEAD!!
And now for the week's totally gratuitous picture.
I think we have seen the last days of Summer for this year. sigh
(I will be very late getting here - won't be around to late Saturday afternoon and maybe not till after dinner. Please comment and I will say hello and get back to everyone!)
